Why Visit Agios Petros Beach
Agios Petros Beach takes its name from the small chapel (dedicated to Saint Peter) that stands on the rocks above the cove. This is one of the quieter beaches in Paleokastritsa, no sunbeds, no taverna, no organized water sports. Just a crescent of white pebbles, transparent turquoise water, and the sound of waves against limestone cliffs.
The beach sits in the shadow of the famous Paleokastritsa Monastery, which means you're often treated to the echoing sound of church bells drifting down the cliffside. Many visitors combine a morning swim at Agios Petros with a visit to the monastery and its small museum. The result is a half-day experience that blends spiritual history with natural beauty, distinctly Greek, deeply peaceful.
What to Expect at Agios Petros Beach
Peaceful & Uncrowded
Because there are no facilities, Agios Petros attracts far fewer visitors than the main beaches. Even in August, you might have the cove to yourself before 11 AM.
Clear Water for Snorkeling
The pebble bottom and rocky edges make for excellent snorkeling. Visibility often exceeds 20 meters, revealing schools of damselfish and sea urchins.
Monastery Views
The iconic white monastery sits on the cliff directly above the beach, creating a stunning backdrop for photos. The chapel of Agios Petros is also worth exploring.
Photography Paradise
The combination of white cliffs, blue-green water, and ancient stone buildings makes Agios Petros one of the most photogenic spots in Corfu.
Studios Near Agios Petros Beach Paleokastritsa
Agios Petros Beach is approximately 600 meters from Astacos Studios, a pleasant 7-minute walk along the coastal path. This proximity makes it easy to incorporate into your daily routine: swim early at Agios Petros before the sun gets too strong, return to your studio for breakfast on the balcony, then explore the monastery in the late morning.
Because Agios Petros has no facilities (no taverna, no sunbeds, no bathrooms), most guests spend 1–2 hours there before moving on. Staying at self-catering accommodation like Astacos Studios means you can pack snacks, bring your own beach mat, and structure your day around multiple beach visits rather than being tied to a single all-inclusive resort.
How to Get There from Astacos Studios
Walking (7 minutes): Exit our property and walk south along the main coastal road toward the monastery. After about 500 meters, you'll see a footpath on your right marked "Agios Petros" or "Chapel." The path is steep and rocky in places, so wear proper sandals or walking shoes. The descent takes 3–4 minutes; climbing back up takes about 5 minutes.
Via monastery: Alternatively, you can walk to the monastery first (following the main paved road), explore the grounds, then take the monastery's seaside path down to Agios Petros. This route adds 10 minutes but offers spectacular views and is less steep.
By boat: Some boat tours that depart from the main beach include a swimming stop at Agios Petros. This is the easiest option if you're not confident on steep paths.
What to Bring
Water & snacks: No facilities on the beach, bring everything you need
Water shoes: The beach is pebble; shoes make walking and swimming more comfortable
Snorkel gear: The underwater scenery is worth exploring
Camera: The monastery views and clear water make for incredible photos
Sunscreen & hat: No natural shade; bring your own umbrella if you plan to stay long
Beach mat or towel: No sunbeds, you'll sit directly on the pebbles
Sturdy footwear: For the steep path to and from the beach
