Protected turquoise waters, exceptional snorkeling, the beach that makes people come back to Paleokastritsa
The Beach That Defines Paleokastritsa
When people picture Paleokastritsa, the promotional photos, the Instagram posts that make you book flights to Corfu, they're usually looking at Agios Spyridon Beach. This isn't the largest beach here, or the most convenient, but it's arguably the most beautiful. A small crescent of pebbles backed by dramatic cliffs, sheltered by headlands, with water so clear you can count stones at 20 feet deep. If you're staying at our beachfront studios in Paleokastritsa, this beach is a 5-minute walk along the coastal path.
What Makes Agios Spyridon Beach Special
The Water Clarity Is Exceptional
The combination of protected cove, minimal currents, and rocky seabed creates visibility that rivals tropical destinations. Even non-snorkelers appreciate swimming in water this clear, you'll instinctively look down and start counting fish. For snorkeling enthusiasts, this is one of Corfu's best spots: rocky outcrops hiding octopus, small caves to explore, and schools of damselfish that have zero fear of humans.
It's Protected from Wind
The headlands shelter Agios Spyridon from most afternoon winds that can rough up other Paleokastritsa beaches. When La Grotta or the main beach start seeing whitecaps, Agios Spyridon often remains calm. This makes it particularly valuable for families with young children or anyone who wants reliable swimming conditions throughout the day.
Less Crowded Than Main Beach
The main Paleokastritsa beach gets tour buses. Agios Spyridon doesn't have road access, you reach it by walking the coastal path or taking a water taxi. This natural filter means it's quieter, especially in the morning. Arrive by 9 AM and you might have it to yourself for an hour or two. By noon it fills up, but never reaches the density of beaches with parking access.

Snorkeling at Agios Spyridon
This is one of Corfu's best snorkeling spots. Here's what experienced snorkelers do:
Best spots: The rocky outcrops on both sides of the beach, especially the right side (facing the sea) where small caves and overhangs create habitat for fish.
What you'll see: Damselfish, wrasse, bream, sea urchins, occasional octopus, lots of small fish in the rocks. Water clarity makes everything visible.
Best timing: Morning (9-11 AM) has calmest conditions and best light penetration. Afternoon works too but can get busier.
Equipment: Basic mask and snorkel sufficient. Water shoes helpful for rocky entry. Rental available at the beach bar.
Best Times to Visit
Early Morning (8-10 AM)
Nearly empty, calmest water, best snorkeling conditions. If staying at our studios, you can have breakfast and be here by 8:30 AM when it's essentially private.
Mid-Day (11 AM-3 PM)
Busiest period. Sun loungers usually taken by 11 AM. Still pleasant, just more social. Bring your own towel and find a spot on the pebbles if loungers are full.
Late Afternoon (4-6 PM)
Crowd thins out, water still warm, beautiful late light on the cliffs. Many people leave by 5 PM, making this a peaceful alternative to morning visits.
